The 2015 Rosemary Study Changed How People Think About Natural Hair Care. Here's What It Actually Said.
In 2015, a study by Panahi et al. placed rosemary oil alongside 2% Minoxidil in a six-month comparison on subjects with androgenetic hair patterns. The rosemary group showed comparable hair count results. The rosemary group also reported significantly less scalp itching.
That study used rosemary oil at a specific grade. It was applied to the scalp consistently. The active compound — rosmarinic acid — interacts with 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT.
The problem with how that study is being applied in the market: standard rosemary oil, diluted in mineral oil, is being sold as 'the ingredient from the study.' Standard grade has less rosmarinic acid than Extra Pure grade. Mineral oil carrier means the rosmarinic acid stays on the scalp surface. The research condition and the retail product are not the same thing.
What Makes Vihira 360° Hair Recovery Oil Different
Vihira 360° Hair Recovery Oil contains 15 plant-derived ingredients — each with a specific biological role, each extracted to preserve its active compounds, all working simultaneously on every pathway that drives hair fall.
On the DHT pathway:
Rosemary Extra Pure (rosmarinic acid — 5-AR research). Pumpkin Seed — Cucurbita Pepo (beta-sitosterol — androgen pathway research). Black Seed CO2 Extract — Nigella Sativa (thymoquinone — anti-androgenic properties). Three ingredients. Three different mechanisms. One pathway.
On the scalp microbiome:
Eucalyptus Globulus Extra Pure — documented antimicrobial activity against Malassezia. Safflower ~75% linoleic acid — corrects the sebum composition that enables Malassezia to thrive. Curcuma Longa curcumin — NF-κB inflammation pathway. Chamomile bisabolol — scalp barrier restoration.
On the stress-hair pathway:
Brahmi — Bacopa Monnieri (cortisol pathway research). Peppermint Extra Pure — Mentha Piperita (vasodilation, follicle reactivation, 2014 study data).
On follicle support and repair:
Bhringraj — Eclipta Alba Ultra Lightweight (dermal papilla research). Amla — Phyllanthus Emblica (antioxidant protection). Castor — ricinoleic acid (scalp cleansing, cuticle sealing). Vetiver. Himalayan Cedar.
On delivery:
Fractionated coconut oil (C8/C10) as carrier. Fractionated coconut oil (Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, C8/C10) is used in pharmaceutical transdermal formulations because of its confirmed ability to cross the skin barrier. Its molecular weight falls well within the range skin absorbs readily.
Rosemary Oil — Grade and Carrier Compared
Generic Rosemary Oil / Standard Grade Products:
Rosmarinic acid present at standard concentration. Often dissolved in mineral oil carrier — cannot cross skin barrier. Or sold as undiluted essential oil that must be user-diluted. Quality and carrier vary entirely by product.
Rosemary in Vihira 360° Hair Recovery Oil:
Rosmarinus Officinalis Extra Pure — higher rosmarinic acid concentration than standard grade. In fractionated coconut carrier (C8/C10) that crosses the skin barrier. Part of a triple 5-AR combination (rosemary + pumpkin seed + black seed CO2), not standalone.
